Small Morning Habits That Set the Tone for the Rest of Your Day
I used to be the type who went to bed when I wanted, slept in as long as I could, and rushed out the door. No wind-down routine. No morning routine. Of course, I was able to get by and still make pretty good choices, but I wasn’t optimizing my day or maximizing my potential because structure was lacking.
Over time, I realized that mornings really do dictate how the rest of the day unfolds. And it’s not even about how productive you are. What I’ve noticed most is the clarity I bring to the tasks ahead.
Shifting to an intentional morning has been a total game-changer. It’s not about rushing through a to-do list or waking up earlier just to “do more.” It’s about creating peace of mind, organization, and focus that carries through every hour of the day.
Here’s a look into how my mornings typically flow:
⏰ Get Up When I Say I Will
This seemingly small act builds momentum. It’s a quiet way of keeping my word to myself before the day even begins, avoiding wasted time on a silly mental debate.
💧 Hydrate First
As soon as I feed the dogs, I pour myself 16oz of water and mix in my greens and creatine. This small habit ensures I start by hydrating while also checking off my daily dose of creatine and getting the ball rolling on micronutrients.
📖 Stillness + Scripture
I don’t check emails or scroll first thing. This is my special time to read my Bible, reflect, and plan for the day. I open my planner, time block the day, and make sure what matters most actually has space in my schedule. This clears my head and gives the day direction.
☀️ Steps + Sunshine
Once the sun comes up, it’s time for a walk with the doggies! These 30+ minutes stack habits that check both “steps” and “sunshine” off the list early. I aim for 10–15K steps a day, so starting the morning this way helps me move into my workday already ahead.
🍳 Protein-Rich Breakfast
If I skip breakfast or delay it too long, I notice it later. I’m hungrier, more distracted, and less likely to make aligned food choices. A simple, protein-rich breakfast makes all the difference—most mornings it’s an iced protein latte, eggs, and one of my homemade protein muffins (recipe linked here!).
🏋️♀️ Strength Train (4x per week)
While I don’t lift every morning, strength training remains one of my cornerstone habits. In my latest YouTube video, I walk through how I follow the same programming we use in the Hoopie App and what that structure looks like.
Early mornings aren’t necessarily about doing more, but they are about creating an intentional time—even a small window—to set the tone for the day with clarity and focus.
