Healthy Hoopie Habits - Day 16: Water + Electrolytes

Why this matters right now

Summer heat means heavy sweating—and that can quickly deplete both water and electrolytes. Staying hydrated isn’t just about guzzling water; it's about making sure your body can use that water to stay healthy and energized.

We recently leveled up our hydration!

We recently upgraded from a basic pitcher filter to a reverse osmosis (RO) system—a huge win for removing impurities and giving us full control over the water we drink. But RO does its job too well: it strips out all the natural minerals, leaving pure (but empty) water.

Demineralized water has downsides

Reverse osmosis water significantly reduces calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium—minerals that support our bodies. Without minerals, your body treats water like… just water: it doesn’t absorb it, you pee it out, and you remain dehydrated.

Electrolytes: the king of hydration

Electrolytes—especially sodium and potassium—create the right balance inside and outside your cells, helping hydrate more effectively, regulate fluid, and support nerve & muscle function. To add minerals back in, you’ve got options. Some filters do remineralize the pure water (ours does not), but you can also use electrolyte packets, a pinch of sea salt, or of course, real nutrient-dense food sources.

Water isn’t just water—it’s the medium that fuels every cell in your body. But para-phrasing our ethos: every sip and snack now is an investment in your future self. Stay rooted in awareness and discipline—hydrate well, feel strong, and keep showing up for your best self.
