Reframing Your Expectations as the Seasons Change

Every year, this time of year tends to expose the all-or-nothing mindset.
We can easily go from being fully locked into routine to throwing it all out the window once life gets busy.

This is why I’m such a big fan of rhythms over routines.

Your rhythm adapts with the season you’re in. It allows you to adjust around travel, holidays, and full schedules—yet still show up in these moments with intention and purpose.

It means simplifying. It means setting realistic expectations that are centered on your values and non-negotiables, and doing those things with excellence instead of trying to do everything halfway.

Because the truth is, health and consistency were never meant to be “all or nothing.” They’re meant to be steady and aligned.

Questions to Consider for Every New Season

When life starts to shift, take a moment to check in with yourself:

  • What season am I about to enter?

  • What’s unique about it?

  • What are my core values and non-negotiables? (I encourage revisiting these often!)

  • What would it look like to realistically show up for these simplified non-negotiables in this current season?

Your answers define what’s realistic for you. Some days you’ll have more to give—and that’s great—but when you don’t, you’ll know you’ve still stayed true to your word.

That’s what matters most.

The Rhythm Changes, But the Standard Stays

Last year around this time, we were training for a 50K race in January, and Cody was also prepping for his 100-mile race in February. That meant training—and training exactly to plan—had to happen.

This year, Cody’s still in a focused block with another goal on the calendar (what a surprise 😂), but my personal focus is stewarding my best health in the most sustainable way.

That means my workouts don’t take a back seat, because they’re a big part of pursuing optimal health. But with everything coming up on our schedule, it may look like setting the clock for 60 minutes, working hard, and feeling satisfied with sticking to that non-negotiable.

The rhythm changes, but the standard stays.

Health That Lasts Beyond One Season

For those of you pursuing lifelong health, this is where the stress of perfection can finally ease. You don’t have to do it all—but you do have to do something.

This is the beauty of rhythm. It gives you permission to ebb and flow with the seasons while staying anchored in your core habits. It’s not about chasing perfection. It’s about carrying those healthy rhythms with you wherever life takes you—whether that’s at home, traveling, or at a holiday dinner table.

If the end of 2025 feels chaotic for you too, it’s time to adjust, not abandon. Focus on what you can control, and do it really well.

When Life Gets Busy, That’s When Coaching Matters Most

When life gets full, that might actually be the best time to have a coach in your corner. Someone to help you simplify, stay focused on what matters most, and hold you accountable as you keep moving forward.

If that’s what you need this season, check out our coaching services here or reach out directly. We’d love to help you build your rhythm for what’s ahead.
